The ideal Transportation Manager for the Northeast Iowa Food Bank understands and is passionate about the organization’s mission to provide nutritious food and grocery products to nonprofit organizations and individuals in northeast Iowa. This individual will be a vital component of the Food Bank in the fight against hunger by providing over 8.4 million meals annually to the over 40,000 food insecure people in northeast Iowa. This team member must demonstrate outstanding ability to safely transport products that are to be picked up and delivered to agencies and programs within our 16-county service area.

The responsibilities of the Transportation Manager include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Responsible for the oversight and scheduling of fleet maintenance for all Food Bank vehicles. Utilize Geotab to maintain proper record keeping and reporting of all required documentation. Correspond with the Warehouse Supervisor in order to reduce any negative impact on daily operations.
· Oversee NEIFB drivers and verify that each vehicle is properly checked before operation.
· Oversee Random Drug Screening program for both DOT and non-DOT personnel within the NEIFB organization.
· Provide daily efficient route delivery scheduling to our 16-county service area with collaboration of the Warehouse Supervisor.
· Develop and retain vendor relationships to secure competitive pricing and ensure quick turnaround on maintenance of NEIFB fleet vehicles.
· Make deliveries to local agencies and partners, ensuring food safety standards are met and providing outstanding customer service. Complete required documentation.
· Oversee the development of efficient routes and driver schedules to reduce labor costs as well as strategies for greater fuel efficiency and reduced vehicle costs.
· Perform retail food rescue pick-up route with refrigerated truck and collect donations from our partner retailers for the Food Bank as required. Maintain food safety standards, accurately track donation sources and maintain professional relationships with donors. Communicate challenges and opportunities to the Food Sourcing Coordinator and the Food Sourcing Manager.
· Maintain fuel levels and required cleanliness of all vehicles. Periodically audit vehicles for following fuel and cleanliness guidelines in order to keep the operations team accountable.
· Assist with the implementation of maintenance management software, GPS systems, logistics and routing software to monitor drivers, optimize routes, track fleet maintenance and repairs, minimize downtime and improve operational efficiency.
· Deliver and unload product at mobile pantry sites as required. Maintain professional relationships with volunteers and coordinators. Communicate challenges and opportunities to the Community Programs team.
· Perform donor pickups at food manufacturers and processors throughout the state of Iowa.
· Keep up to date with and guarantee compliance with U.S. Department of Transportation laws and regulations.
· Assist with warehouse operations including accurate and efficient order fulfillment, precise inventory counts and routine cleaning.
· Greet, train and supervise volunteers as well as share the mission of the NEIFB; provide general guidance of projects; assure proper training of volunteers to include specific jobs and safety concerns. Communicate frequently with volunteers to ensure they are satisfied and appropriately placed.
· In instances of a federal, state or locally declared emergency, NEIFB is typically considered an essential service and emergency responder; all of its employees may be called in to perform regular or emergent duties.
· Provide occasional coverage in other areas of the NEIFB, as necessary, in times of high need.
· Valid Iowa Class A CDL License
· High School Diploma or GED
· Certified Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)
· Minimum one-year experience driving a 53-foot tractor trailer
· Excellent organizational skills
· Excellent interpersonal problem-solving communication and customer service skills
· Ability to perform basic mathematical functions
· Ability to lift and carry object weighing up to 50 lbs.
· Ability to operate Pallet Jacks, Forklifts and other warehouse equipment
· Ability to work in varied temperatures
· Ability to be ServSafe Food Handler Certified
· Ability to work independently and with staff to achieve objectives
· Ability to work with diverse populations including individuals of various educational, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds
· Ability to work evenings and Saturdays as required
· Ability to work, learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment
Preferred:
· Forklift Certification
· Knowledge of fleet and maintenance terms in order to communicate with vendors
· Previous experience with warehouse management, maintenance management or logistics and routing software(s).
