Tailored to each school's needs, expertise rests with those most familiar with the community. School Markets, akin to pantries but dubbed Markets to remove stigma, provide essential resources within schools.
School Markets are located on school grounds and are intended to provide a more readily accessible source of food to low-income students and their families. The goal of a School Market is to help combat hunger by providing food to children and their families at school. While each site will be distinct and managed differently, all will follow the same NEIFB guidelines. The School Market Program is intended to be offered at no cost to participating children and is recommended that each Market be accessible to the public, families, and faculty at least once a month, and available to students every school day.
One in six children in northeast Iowa experience food insecurity. School Markets are here to help.
