About You

The ideal Office Custodian for the Northeast Iowa Food Bank understands and is passionate about the organization’s mission to provide nutritious food and grocery products to nonprofit organizations and individuals in northeast Iowa. This individual will be a vital component of the Food Bank in the fight against hunger. This team member must demonstrate outstanding ability to work with the Facilities staff to ensure assigned areas are clean, orderly, safe, and secure.

A passion for social justice and compassion for others are keys to being a staff member at the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. The Northeast Iowa Food Bank strives to work as a unified team to close the Meal Gap in northeast Iowa, to this end the Office Custodian will need to be capable of working as a team, as well as being a self-starter. In addition, maintaining a positive outlook will play a large role in being a motivator and encourager for the community, clients, and volunteers alike.

About The Job

The responsibilities of the Office Custodian include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Perform daily housekeeping tasks in the office areas, lobby, conference rooms, breakroom, hallways, and restrooms ensuring AIB standards are met. Accurately record completion of daily tasks – 25%
  • Perform weekly, monthly and quarterly tasks on the cleaning schedule for the interior areas of responsibility and facility grounds to ensure compliance with AIB standards. Keep accurate records of tasks completed on the cleaning schedule – 25%
  • Assist with all housekeeping tasks and duties in the warehouse areas and serve as backup in times of need – 50%
  • Report and remove any safety hazards inside the Food Bank and facility grounds. Document and report all safety hazards to their supervisor.
  • Identifies and reports the need for repairs to the facility to their supervisor.
  • Track inventory of supplies and report to their supervisor replenishment needs.
  • In instances of a federal, state or locally declared emergency, NEIFB is typically considered an essential service and emergency responder; all of its employees may be called in to perform regular or emergent duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet Food Bank needs.

Requirements
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical functions
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 60 lbs.
  • Ability to safely operate Pallet Jacks, Forklifts, Scissor lift and additional warehouse equipment
  • Ability to work independently and with staff to achieve objectives
  • Ability to work with diverse populations including individuals of various educational ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Interpersonal problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills
  • Valid Iowa Driver’s License and safe driving record
  • Ability to work, learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
